DEBOIS BUNCH CENTER FOR PUBLIC POLICY
MISSION AND VISION
In the spirit of the scholarship and progressive activism promoted by W.E.B. DuBois and Ralph Johnson Bunche the DuBois Bunche Center for Public Policy was founded to empower and cultivate the work of a new generation of scholar activist and advocates dedicated to identifying progressive solutions to the challenges confronting urban communities, in the U.S. and throughout the African Diaspora. The DuBois Bunche Center proposes to accomplish this mission by embracing a philosophical standpoint that identifies with the application of human rights theory, equity theory, and critical theory in public policy. The center seeks to apply these concepts to the administration of government and non-governmental organizations within a domestic and global context. Moreover, the DuBois Center proposes to promote this scholarship by engaging in the following:
-
Identification of emerging trends, issues and best practices in public policies that advance economic and social justice in governance and civil society through participatory democracy.
-
Formulation of laws, public policies, programs and community covenants that advance social justice, economic justice, human rights, and equity within a domestic and global context.
-
The formulation and dissemination of research concerning social justice, economic justice, human rights, and equity via academic journals, traditional media, and new media outlets.
-
Cultivation and empowerment of scholarship promoted by a new generation of scholar activist and advocates who in the tradition of Dr. DuBois and Dr. Bunche link social justice theory, economic justice theory, human rights theory, and equity theory with democratic practice; and
-
Promoting scholarship that intergrates human rights theory and critical pedagogy into the discipline of public policy and public administration.
