Thurgood Marshall Forum

The Goodman, Chaney and Shwerner Academy will sponsor an annual public policy forum that will coincide with the beginning of the academic year and the National Commemoration for the U.S. Constitution which occurs during the week of September seventeenth.

The Forum, named in honor of Justice Thurgood Marshall will encourage a school wide and community wide discourse on the status of the civil and human rights covenants inherent in U.S. Constitution.  The Thurgood Marshall Forum will emphasize the relevance of the 14th and 15th Amendment to the contemporary application of civil and human rights in the United States Government and Civil Society.  The forum may also include an annual report from the NAACP Legal Defense Fund on the status of educational opportunities for people of color as related to the historic Brown vs. Board of Education decision.  The Thurgood Marshall Forum will serve as a medium for the open exchange of ideas between the guest speakers, students and the public.   The Thurgood Marshall Forum  may serve as a collaboration between The NAACP Student Chapter at Medgar Evers College, The Center for Law and Social Justice, The Brooklyn Chapter of The NAACP and The DuBois Bunche Center for Public Policy.
